Paver Patios

Paver patios can be designed in nearly limitless styles. Concrete pavers come in so many colors, shapes and sizes that we can create any effect you choose: contemporary, an Olde English cobblestone, a Spanish plaza or Italian piazza. By changing the patterns in which we lay the pavers, we can add even more interest and texture. This is long-lasting material, and so we will make certain you have a style you can enjoy for years.

There are many advantages to your choice of paving stones for your patio. At the head of the list are high performance, top durability and low maintenance.

  • We lay paver patios over carefully graded earth with a sand surface. By surrounding each stone with a special grade of sand, you get very strong flooring that flexes when it heats up during our summer coastal Georgia days. This means the stones don’t crack from weather. This is not the case with a poured or stamped concrete patio. It is platform that is hard, doesn’t flex and invariably cracks. When you patch concrete, you see the spot forever. You just can’t hide it.

Paver patios can be easily repaired. Many homeowners keep a few of the stones around in case something happens, so that the replacements match perfectly. While pavers resist oil and grease, a paint spill could necessitate replacement. It is simply a matter of taking up the problem stone and re-fitting a new one. It is also possible to move stones from a less visible spot in order to match those surrounding the damage. Then new pavers replace those that were moved, and are less noticeable.

Here is a small sample of some of the many shapes you can choose:
  • Bishops hat
  • Square
  • Cobblestone
  • Coping
  • Rectangles
  • Brick shape

Some designs for paver patios
  • The direction in which the stones are laid can be mixed. For instance, they can be arranged in a circular pattern which can delineate an area for an outdoor dining table. The round design can also form the end of the patio as it meets the landscape beyond. This can give the impression of greater space.

  • When you break from an in-line design, you get the cobblestone effect. This style is very popular outside of older homes, and to give contemporary architecture a classic dash.

  • Laying stones on a diagonal can make paver patios appear wider.

We always recommend edging. Not only does it give a finished look, but also it gives a secure boundary that keeps the design securely in place. Movement can separate stones on the periphery from the design. There are numerous styles of edging, many of which are custom-made for just this purpose. We can use the same pavers, a cement lip, or vinyl and metal edging.

Many homeowners are so taken with the look and superiority of paver patios that they have us design and install extensions onto pathways and driveways, for a complete landscape design Our professionally installed paving stone driveways won't crack, sag, shift or separate, and look terrific for decades. Our clients find that the modest cost increase over poured concrete is compensated by the fact that they never have to seal or stain (as with wood) or to patch, as with concrete.
