Concrete has never looked so good
The most popular paver material is concrete, which has banished grey, plain poured concrete in favor of formed concrete, in a nearly limitless combination of shapes, textures and colors. These pavers are factory-made of concrete and an aggregate of other materials. You get the beauty of a stone driveway at a far lower cost. There are also brick and stone pavers, which bring a distinctive look at a higher price. Because we install them correctly and instruct you on maintenance, a concrete paver driveway lasts up to 20 years.
- In addition, one of the excellent features of these interlocking pieces is that if one were to become damaged, replacing it is a simple, quick operation. Many homeowners keep a few extra to use if needed. If there is a problem under the stones, they are easily taken apart so the under-surface can be repaired. The original pieces are then put back together, eliminating any patches that don’t match. Newly-laid or re-laid surfaces can be used immediately.
Perfect for driveways
The composition of the concrete makes a paver driveway resistant to fuel and oil spills. The surface is slip and skid resistant. It stays cooler than poured concrete and heats up significantly less than asphalt, which is very important in our South Georgia summers.
A paver driveway is sometimes call “segmental concrete”
“Segmenting” the pavers enables them to flex when cars drive or sit on them. The stones are four times stronger than poured concrete and designed for durability and long life. The Romans built segmented roads, and some of them are still around today. It’s an ancient idea made next-generation with the manufacturing technology. The city of North Bay, Ontario, Canada built streets and sidewalks with pavers 20 years ago and have had no need to replace them.
A paver driveway will not crack like concrete slab or asphalt, because each of the joints allows for some movement. That’s why the technology used to be called, “Holland Stone”. The Dutch use pavers because land below sea level shifts constantly and pavers take it. They are usually set in sand rather than mortar, which allow mobility and discourage cracking.
- Many homeowners not only choose a paver driveway, but also a corresponding pathway to the front door, and around to the rear, using the same material. An edging of flowers or greenery sets off your driveway. You may also choose landscape lighting along either side to extend the beauty of the pavers into the evening hours.
The design possibilities are endless
You have many choices in color, sizes, shapes, patterns and designs. Installing a driveway pavement is not complex, but it is more labor intensive than poured concrete, and so naturally it will cost more than that. We will be measuring and cutting the stones with great accuracy. You will have chosen a design from a cobblestone effect to the look of a brick street. This takes labor, but the fruits of the labor will delight you for decades to come.
